About Us
Lead craftsman and veteran Jim Freeman, has been woodworking for over 30 years, much of which he learned from generations of family craftsmen that have come before him. From a young age, Jim apprenticed in his family’s home construction business and fine cabinetry shops. He now utilizes much of the knowledge of traditional building and joinery methods in every custom project he crafts. In 2004, Jim met his wife Susan Freeman who runs daily shop operations. Like Jim, Susan came from a wood working family who also had 20+ years working for Black & Decker/DeWalt tools. In 2005, Jim and Susan married, and Freeman Wood Crafters was established. They now operate out of Eden, NC and serve the local, national, and international communities by crafting high quality and unique pieces at affordable prices.

Jim & I strive to surpass customer expectations as a team. We take pride in our work and build with old style craftsmanship. We work with our customers to build quality custom pieces using our designs or theirs, to fit in their own unique spaces. The more unique the project, the more it fits our shop. We thrive on the challenge.
We love the process of crafting and building a piece… transforming the idea into a design, receiving the rough cut lumber with the bare facade of the wood pattern, and machining the wood down to the right size and shape for the piece. The process concludes with the final sanding. Each step reveals and enhances God’s beautiful secrets behind the bark.
We also do restorative work and can match existing patterns in trim work which Jim has completed in pre-civil war houses in Lewisburg, WV, at Chinqua-Penn Plantation in Reidsville, NC, and in Old Salem, Winston-Salem, NC.
We believe if you cut down a tree, the products you make from it ought to last generations, with as little waste as possible. We use CARB2 compliant, “made in the USA” plywoods, and as much domestic hardwoods as possible. We have access to a large supply of domestic and rare exotic veneers which allow us to create one of- a- kind pieces.
